Douglas Smith

Doug Smith is the CEO of DP World in Canada, where he brings nearly 30 years of experience in international trade, shipping, and logistics to spearhead innovation and sustainable growth across the company’s Canadian operations. His leadership is centered around driving operational efficiency and enhancing DP World’s presence in the Canadian market, ensuring the company’s services align with the evolving demands of global trade.

Doug joined DP World after serving as CEO and Joint President of Mundra & Tuna Ports at Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone in India, where he oversaw significant financial and operational improvements. His leadership in India contributed to the development of strategic logistics solutions and infrastructure projects that positioned the ports for long-term growth and success.

Prior to his tenure at Adani, Doug held key roles at Maersk, APM Terminals, and Global Ports Management, leading operations in six countries across three continents. His extensive experience in port and terminal management provided him with a global perspective on logistics and supply chain optimization, which he now applies to DP World’s operations in Canada.

Doug began his career at Sea-Land Services, Inc., gaining foundational experience in marine transportation and logistics. He has since held board positions with several global terminals and logistics companies, where he contributed to the strategic direction and operational performance of these organizations.

Doug holds a BS in Marine Transportation from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and an MBA in Global Management from the University of Phoenix. He was honorably discharged as Lieutenant Commander from the United States Naval Reserve in 2009. His academic and professional achievements, combined with his extensive industry experience, position Doug as a key leader driving DP World’s success in Canada and across the global logistics sector.
